BotCon '99 Official Art Contest Results

Welcome to Starshadow's official Art Contest winners' page!

Here are the official winners of the BotCon '99 Art Contest. My thanks go out to Jon Hartman for providing me with these results; for, as most of you are now aware, I was in a car accident a couple of days before the 'Con and was unable to personally attend. If you are anxious to get right to the results, go ahead and click here. If not, I would appreciate it if you would permit me to say a few words about that whole incident and express my personal feelings on the matter.

Firstly, in answer to all of those numerous emails I received shortly after the accident, I am fine. I received a few cuts and bruises and a very annoying case of whiplash, but otherwise I came out of it unscathed. Yes, I did hit my head on something (I still don't know what) and yes, the doctors did keep me for a while under the suspicion that I may have a concussion, but that did not turn out to be the case. (thankfully!) In fact, I have already just about fully recovered from my injuries. (I still get a stiff neck sometimes) Unfortunately, my car didn't fair nearly as well. But cars can be replaced, right?

So, the other thing I would like to address is how you and all the other kind-hearted TransFans out there pulled together to help me out in my time of need. Thank you. From the very bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! From those of you who were thoughtful enough to simply send me get well wishes, all the way up to those who actually took over the responsibilities of the Art Contest/Auction for me: THANK YOU!! Of course, I must make a special mention here of those who gave up their time and effort to keep the Art Contest/Auction a continuing part of the BotCon experience. Those wonderful individuals include Malin, (who graciously disrupted her time schedule to take an emergency shipment of mail-in entries and transport them to BotCon, and then helped co-ordinate the event once there) Barbara, (perhaps better known as "YarnMaster Barb", she co-hosted the event with Malin) Raksha, (who insists that she only helped in an "advisory" capacity, but I'm sure that advice was indispensible! :-) Mark, (who I understand helped count the ballots and "maintain order" ;-j) and; of course, the Hartmans, who have been wonderfully supportive and helpful throughtout this whole experience. There are probably others who helped that I am either forgetting or am not aware of. If you are one of these, PLEASE don't be insulted! Believe me, your efforts were just as much appreciated as everyone elses'. I can't adequately express in words how indebted I feel to everyone who opened their hands to me when I was down. I just can't say it enough: THANK YOU!!!

And I can't say how much this whole experience has renewed my faith in the TransFan community as a whole. It seemed to me like we were fracturing ourselves; dividing ourselves up into two seperate camps: "Beast Wars" and "non-Beast Wars". Although I deeply respect others' choices as to what they will accept and what they will not, I was afraid that this difference in opinions was tearing us; as a fan-community, apart. That is, until the accident happened. That is when something wonderful happened. TransFans from all sides, both Beast Wars and not, pitched in and helped out; sent me get well cards and good wishes. They banded together and made the Art Contest/Auction work, and made sure it would continue to be a successful part of the many BotCons to come. This proved to me that we are all still united under the TransFan banner, and that we are still capable of great things. May this unity continue for many generations to come!!

Alright, I am done being sentimental now. ;-) Let's get to the good part, shall we? Here's the list, as provided to me by Jon Hartman. I don't have any pics to go along with it, (for obvious reasons :-/) and I doubt that I ever will, unless someone out there has pics of these winning entries (or any other Art Contest/Auction entries, actually) that they are willing to share. I am sorry. I very much planned on having a nice little display here complete with accompanying pics, but I guess that wasn't meant to be. Oh well. At least I have this much!
