According to recently discovered information, Starshadow is known to be Starscream’s "sister"- in the sense that she was made by the same creators as him. As a result she may share in her brother’s "immortality," although this is still to date unproven. (and if Starshadow is indeed "Special," she is as oblivious to it as Starscream) Believed to have been killed on Cybertron many years ago while engaging the Autobots in battle, she was discovered by a Decepticon patrol. At the time of the discovery, it was revealed that she had been leading an elite group of secretive and highly successful female Decepticons that referred to themselves as the Wolf Pack. After various meetings and talks with Megatron, the Decepticon leader at the time, Starshadow and her group agreed to come to Earth to help further the Decepticon cause there. But shortly afterwards, several of her group were sent back to Cybertron, leaving only her and two other companions behind. Starshadow became very resentful towards Megatron for this, and it, along with her ambition, helped lead directly to her break with him later on.
Because of pressures from the male Decepticons, Starshadow and her companions had to continually prove themselves to them in battle, occasionally even with the male Decepticons themselves. The victory almost always went to the Wolf Pack, usually out of sheer savageness if nothing else. Starshadow, naturally being the most vicious of the Pack, will attack any foe, regardless of size or gender. In fact, she actually prefers to attack males because of their tendency to underrate her. On Earth, Starshadow’s desire for leadership made itself all too clear. Frequent arguments erupted between her and Megatron, although she still held a grudging respect for his power. [By the way, she had virtually no contact with Starscream (Megatron kept them separate, with good reason) during this time.] As time progressed, however, her relationship with Megatron became increasingly bitter. A final fallout between the two was inevitable. Strangely enough, though, the end came not by Starshadow’s hand, but through being accused of something she did not do. Never truly found guilty of the crime, Megatron let her keep her life, but because of her "potential for treachery," he assigned her and the rest of the Pack to a deep space patrol on the Decepticon starfighter "Wraith." This arrangement suited Starshadow just fine because, since it was a deep space patrol, she did not have to deal with Megatron or report everything she did. (During her first few weeks on assignment she made a point of briefly docking on Cybertron to pick up the rest of the Pack.) As the years progressed, Starshadow became more and more independent in both manner and supply need, but the resentment over her dishonorable expulsion and her desire for power, as always, still blazed in her soul. Since news did not travel fast in deep space, Starshadow was shocked when she learned that Galvatron led the Decepticons. Curious as to how this new leader would react to her and the Pack’s presence, she went with the rest of the Pack to confront him. The confrontation was brief, but eventful. It ended with Starshadow and the entire Pack attacking Galvatron, the only thing saving him being a counterattack by some of Galvatron's more loyal subjects. To Starshadow, this was the proverbial "silicon chip that broke the cameltoid's back." From that moment on, Starshadow and all members of the Wolf Pack pledged themselves to the cause of establishing an effective form of Decepticon command - by any means necessary. Their star fighter was renamed "Anarch," a name that soon came to strike fear into the hearts (and fuel pumps) of all space travelers. The Wolf Pack became a band of infamous space pirates with Starshadow as their captain. Any star cruiser was fair game, Decepticon, Autobot, or otherwise. Even though they were pirates they still fought for the Decepticon cause, gladly claiming conquered vessels under Starshadow's name, cheerfully releasing Decepticon prisoners and exterminating Autobots. Their lives were eventful, with Autobots and Decepticons chasing them every step of the way. In time Starshadow and the Pack came to hear about a haven named New Kree, a neutral planet where no conflict is allowed between anyone. Low on reserves and damaged from a previous battle, they docked and proceeded to explore. They found it to their liking and decided to stay until they ran out of things to do, if for no other reason. It is rumored that this is where they have their secret base called "The Lair," but if anybody other than a Pack member or ally has ever found it, they have not lived to tell about it.
Starshadow, being somewhat of a "lone wolf" if you will, didn't bother much with making friends on New Kree, but the ones she did make turned out to be very important. Spitfire, a musician and spy, and as it turned out fellow Decepticon refugee, came to be Starshadow's closest friend and ally. It was also not long before Spitfire's little companion, Electrofox, turned out to be an indispensable familiar as well. When these two found out Starshadow's current occupation and situation they introduced her to Starscream, owner and operator of the galaxy's largest and most successful pirate fleet. Needless to say, they had much to talk about - and much in common, as well. Starshadow agreed to merge with Starscream's fleet, making "Anarch" one of its major flagships. Never has she so thoroughly enjoyed pirating as she does now.
Also while on New Kree, Spitfire and Electrofox introduced Starshadow to the art of music making. Starshadow fell in love with it almost instantaneously and in relatively no time at all was strumming out rhythms on a laser guitar of her own creation. She often travels with the other two playing lead guitar in concerts here and there for a few extra energon chips, occasionally helping Spitfire to do interrogations between sets. Through her music, Starshadow's other side can be seen, her oft-times surprising side. Her usually serious nature completely gives way to her off-the-wall sense of humor, often at the oddest times. Many just dismiss this wildness as too much energon, but others know that deep down inside, she just wants to have fun!
Starshadow's alternate mode was changed to that of an F-18 Hornet upon arrival on Earth, but she later had her original Cybertronian mode restored. She does, however, still have the option of taking on the F-18 form when the mood strikes her or circumstances necessitate it, making her essentially a triple-changer. In F-18 mode she can reach speeds approaching Mach 4. She carries sidewinder-style missiles of Cybertronian origin that are around 98% accurate. In addition to this she also carries a 20mm laser cannon in her nosecone. This device is powerful enough to burn a hole in an enemy jet's tail section 10 miles away.
In robot mode, Starshadow carries two forearm-mounted submachine laser guns each capable of firing up to 350 bursts per minute. They are powerful enough to level a five-story building in ten seconds. Each gun also has attached to it a retractable, double-bladed "bayonet" for hand-to-hand combat. These can slice through most types of armor with almost no effort, and Starshadow thoroughly enjoys using them to their fullest potential. Her dark coloring makes her ideal for night (or space) flying and she is at her most lethal capacity at that time. Her Cybertronic form makes her capable of a top speed of Mach 8. In this form she can reach sub-orbital altitudes and is capable of space travel when properly fueled.
Starshadow also possesses some weapons that are a little less "tangible" as well. She exhibits some "psychic" ability, namely the ability to manipulate objects with her will alone ("telekinesis") and the ability to sense others’ emotions - and occasionally, thoughts. ("empathy/telepathy") However, even these gifts have their limitations. To use either for an extended period of time can have severe consequences, especially the "telekinesis." When she uses them, they actually drain her life force, which can ultimately result in termination. She can use the "empathy" much more readily than the "telekinesis" because it is not nearly as draining, (which using the "telekinesis" can kill her quite quickly, and so therefore has been reserved as a "last resort") but the subject she is trying to scan must be willing or unaware of her attempt. Most often she is given impressions of emotions over actual thoughts, although she has been receiving the thoughts at an increasing rate lately. To "force" her way into an unwilling mind would almost certainly destroy both her and the subject involved. (She has pushed the envelope on that one a few times.)
She also has one other thing that few Decepticons have, a "pet." Her animal companion is a cyberwolf named Wolfsbane. He is remarkably intelligent and will obey only Starshadow's commands, usually remaining rather docile and observant until ordered otherwise. He’s usually somewhere near her at all times. Perhaps Starshadow’s most effective weapon, Wolfsbane shares a "psychic link" with her, and as a result something extraordinary has happened. Wolfsbane is able to combine with Starshadow physically and mentally. When they are combined, his body becomes an extra set of armor on her, making her nearly impervious to injury and augmenting her abilities with his own. His mind merges completely with hers, lending her the additional benefit of all his instincts and natural understanding. When Starshadow is combined with Wolfsbane, she can be extremely difficult to stop.
When Wolfsbane is not combined with her, Starshadow can use her abilities to sense where he is. Their link is so strong, she can even "see" through his optics, a skill that can come in quite handy for spy missions. Wolfsbane can move with the stealth of a patient hunter and is an expert at waiting for the right opportunity to strike. He also has the power to bring down almost anything he stalks with jaws powerful enough to snap the head off of any Transformer. His teeth are sharp enough to shred even the toughest armor and his claws, although not quite as sharp as his fangs, work well for seizing prey and holding them for his jaws to do their work. He is strong and has a high endurance level, being able to travel long distances without needing to refuel. He is fiercely protective of Starshadow and would undoubtedly give up his life before letting her come to harm.
Starshadow's coloring makes her stick out during the day. Luckily, most of the time her agility makes up for this little problem. She can also be rather impulsive at times; getting an idea and following through on it before completely considering the possible consequences of her actions. With Wolfsbane, because of their strong link, when he is injured Starshadow can feel it as well. If he is hurt badly, the pain can likewise incapacitate Starshadow. Also, sometimes Starshadow’s reasoning can be overridden by Wolfsbane’s instincts in battle, causing her to go into somewhat of a killing frenzy if she’s not stopped in time. In addition she cannot fly or transform when combined with Wolfsbane.
